Melidoni X Village

The Melidoni X Village is a very cosy restaurant with 5 holiday villas hooked up, or it is a cluster of 5 very cosy holiday homes with an attached restaurant. This depends just on one's personal preference.

The combination of both elements makes the facility's particular feature. And the grounds are anyway spacious enough to provide plenty of distance so the villas and the restaurant can not bother each other.

The "X" comes from the landlord's name Georgios Chonianakis and is actually a "Chi".

Three of the five holiday homes in the eastern part of the terrain have 70 sqm of floor space and can accommodate up to 2 adults and 2 infants each.

The two others have 90 sqm of floor space and room for up to 5 persons each.

Each of the detached houses has its own gardens with a sun terrace and a private swimming pool with an integrated sitting-corner, and enjoys unique views of the village center of Melidoni in 1 km distance, of the neighbouring Koulokonas mountains in the East (both 1,078 meters high), and above all of the Ida mountains in the South (2,456 meters).

Melidoni is a small village close to Perama near ▶ Rethymnon on the island of ▶ Crete. It is roughly 4 kms south of the coast between the northern foothills of the Ida mountains.

In the village there is a gas station, a baker's, a mini market, a kiosk, and some small kafenions and tavernas.

The nearest sandy beach belongs to ▶ Bali (8 kms).

Melidoni is popular mainly because of the "Gerontospilios" dripstone cave which is open to look around. The entrance is just above the village (and the Melidoni X Village).

In 1824 A.D., about 400 inhabitants of Melidoni barricaded up in the cave during the struggle for liberation. The Turkish occupiers then lighted a big fire in front of the cave's only entrance and exit. The large sarcophagus which contains the victims' remains stands in the cave up to the present day.

Both for day excursions to the many sights and beautiful sandy beaches of West Crete, and for the transfers from the airport to Melidoni and back, it is essential to hire a car.

We recommend the ▶ Eurocars Car Rental which is known to be most reliable and serves the two international airports of Heraklion and Chania 24 hours per day.
